WTF WTF WTF TREES ARE RANDOMLY FALLING APART IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WTF WTF

This started last night -- I was just lying in bed, trying to go to sleep, when I suddenly heard this really loud 'CRACK' and the sound of leaves rustling. I couldn't see anything when I looked outside, but every now and then I'd hear that same noise, and it sounded like it was coming from all over the neighborhood.

Took this from my window. That's the neighbor's yard.

Went outside to get a better shot of it. I was wearing a t-shirt, pants, and sandals, by the way. And my hair was wet. I didn't feel all that cold for some reason, though, which is weird because I usually start shivering at the drop of a hat. I WAS JUST TOO "WTF" TO BE BOTHERED BY IT, I GUESS

They really got it bad. They were probably the worst from what I saw, just from walking around the front yard and stuff.

Our other neighbor.

One of our trees. This one really depresses me, I dunno. My parents worked so hard putting up the lights... D:

Hahaha, Sarah's car. Poor car. Its gotten so beat up.

Noooooooo that was one of my favorite trees :< :<

Neighbor's yard. This one came out a little blurry. WHOOP.

This is still going on, by the way. I've heard several today, and I heard one just while writing this entry. This is neat and horribly sucky at the same time. One of the things I LIKED about this neighborhood was that it had a lot of trees in it, and now they're all falling apart for some reason D:

Also, woooo ice. Hopefully this wont wind up like last year where my parents and I had to walk ON ICE to get to the store and everything. Though that was kinda fun.

Edit: I just talked to my dad, and he says that this has been going on all over town, and it's MUCH worse out there. He also says that there's a lot of places that don't even have power right now, so we're really lucky to still have it. He also predicts that they're all falling apart because of the weight of the ice. I kinda figured it was something like that.

ANYWAY I think we're gonna go drive around, so I'll edit this later with some more pictures :B

Edit #2:

We didn't really go out of the neighborhood (though we did drive down one street for a bit. Traffic lights are out everywhere), and a lot of these are blurry since I was in a moving car and everything, and also my camera ran out of batteries towards the end, BUUUUUTTTTTT...

Hahaha, poor mailman.

ACTION SHOT

This poor sap was subjected to my photography adventure. Hopefully he didn't see me :B

Accidentally had the flash on, here.

This isn't a very good shot, but man was that tree was messed up.

WOULD THIS YARD STOP MOVING AROUND I SWEAR >( You can kinda see the damage, though.

And then my batteries ran out, which sucks, because it got REALLY bad after that. There was one tree that was split in like ten different directions. Seriously.

The whole time we drove, I was torn between being fascinated and depressed. I'm really going to miss all those trees... man, some were actually UPROOTED because of the weight of the ice and the ground being wet and everything. I hope everyone will be alright -- I saw some people trying to clean up, which, personally, I would not do until the ice has melted. You never know when another limb is going to break, y'know?

It was kind of neat seeing everyone out walking around and stuff, though. Some people even waved at us as we drove by. It's weird how this sort of thing tends to bring out a sense of unity in people. Or maybe I'm just looking for meaning in the wrong places :B

God, and then our yard barely has anything. We are so lucky, you guys. watch as we suddenly get a limb through the window or something

Gosh, that's wild. They were really just breaking apart for no good reason?

Wow, your neighbourhood looks really pretty with all that snow and stuff, though. :< This might be the never-seen-snow-Aussie coming out in me, but I would swap you my stinking hot summer weather for all that pretty snow anytime.

Well, we're assuming it's the weight of the ice. You can't exactly tell in these photos, but the ice is actually REALLY thick :O I'm sure it had to have added up.

YOU DON'T WANT ICE, THOUGH, TRUST ME. LAST YEAR WAS LIKE A FREAKIN' ICE FESTIVAL AND IT SUCKED we couldn't go anywhere for weeks I tell you

[identity profile] neutraltwin.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. Though it's still a little odd that all these trees would start breaking at the same time. Were the last couple of snowfalls real heavy or something?

Hey, at least you're not sweating at 6am in the bloody morning. Ugh, hate summer.

hahaha I looked at your 8U icon now and it suddenly became SO MUCH FUNNIER FOR NO REASON 8D

Nah, this is actually the first... anything we've had all year, snow or ice. Which makes it even more bizarre, since there was nothing to really build this up or anything. We just got some crazy ice storm and that was that. We apparently made it to the national news or something, but I haven't been able to find anything that talks about the trees breaking :O Just power outage statistics and stuff. Dang.

Where I come from is "special" in the sense that both summer AND winter are extreme. 110 DEGREES IN THE SUMMER AND 10 DEGREES IN THE WINTER OH BOY. Though I'm sure Australia is worse when it comes to summer :B

I LOVE MY 8U ICON
