Charity Update

Okay, still trying to get the charity drive straightened out. I wrote down a rough draft of how everything will be run, and even though it's slightly long, I would really appreciate it if everyone took the time to read it! If nobody has any objections then all of this will be final, so please speak up. I need some help!

To recap: This is a charity where different kinds of artists (drawing, writing, etc) use their talents to encourage people to donate. So someone will contribute to a charity, and that contribution will be worth a certain amount of "cash" (i.e.: blood donation = $20). Donors can then use that to "commission" volunteers for stuff, as long as they have proof (photo of their hand putting money in a fundraising box, photo of their "I Donated Blood" sticker, screencap of a site, etc). None of the donations will go through any of the volunteers.

SO I was thinking it'll work like this:

1. On April 2nd (not 1st, don't want April Fools jokes), applications will be accepted until the end of the month. The app is:
Username:
What are you doing?:
What are you charging?:
Just something quick and simple to know who's working and what they're doing without scaring anyone away. People who don't app won't be allowed to volunteer.

2. On May 1st, the charity will begin. Requests will be allowed until June 1st, and then the volunteers will be given the rest of June to finish their requests if they need to. It'll OFFICIALLY end July 1st, though it could end earlier if everyone finishes their stuff before then. (It's fine for volunteers to commission other volunteers, obviously, haha.)

3. The maximum rating is PG-13/pushing R. So, raunchyness is fine, but no actual porn (as in, genitals and stuff). I thought about having it be different for certain mediums (i.e.: NC-17 stories are fine, but videos can only be PG-13 or something), but that wouldn't be very fair, I dunno kdgjhd

4. Donors are allowed to reserve a slot in a volunteer post if they REALLY want to make sure they get something from them, HOWEVER the reservation will only last for a day, they can only make one once per week, and they cannot make a reservation with the same volunteer.

5. Volunteers can set limits for how many requests they'll take at a time. So they could take five requests initially, close their thread, open it later and take another five, and so on. They can change that number around, whatever they want. To let people know what their status is, the volunteer can just reply to their own thread with "Closed" or "Open (Sketches/5, Lineart/3)" or whatever in the subject line.

6. When the charity begins, the mods will throw up a post, and whoever volunteered will start their own thread with their form. The form is:
Username:
Offering:
Charging:
Examples:
I WON'T Do:
Reservations?:
Request Slots:

So for an example:
Username: [livejournal.com profile] doxinator
Offering: Art (sketches, lineart, finished).
Charging: Standard prices, but lineart will be $20.
Examples: Sketch (1, 2, 3), Lineart (1 IS THIS REALLY THE ONLY LINEART EXAMPLE I HAVE I DREW THAT WHEN I WAS FIFTEEN), Finished (1, 2)
I WON'T Do: Pedophilia/shota, rape, incest, anything with more than three people, anything that pushes R.
Reservations?: Allowed.
Request Slots: Sketches/10, Lineart/5, Finished/3.
my art is so stupid BUT ANYWAY, yeah.

7. "Leftovers" are fine, like if someone has some "cash" left over from one commission and wants to do another. The donor is required to link to their their previous request post to show that they aren't trying to cheat anyone. To be extra safe, the mods will run a "current commissions" post to keep track of everything that's going on; volunteers can just report to the mods whenever they get a new commission (and include how much they got) and the info will be added to the post.
On that note: I'm slightly worried about making the "proof" thing public, since I don't want anything stalkery going on, so I was thinking that "proof" could be PMed to the volunteer? I mean, if the volunteer is going to be reporting to the mods, then there still wouldn't be any room for cheating. Then again, donors are encouraged to blot out their face/info and so on, so I... guess it wouldn't be a big deal. idk i get paranoid
Edit: WAIT NO. Donors can just PM their proof to the mods first and get it approved! That way the mods all definitely know what's going on (which could be useful WHAT IF THE VOLUNTEER AND DONOR ARE SECRETLY CON ARTISTS OMG though I'm hoping people aren't going to try and con a charity drive of all things, hahaha, but it never hurts to be safe).
Edit #2: ACTUALLY we could just set up a "proof" post and let people post on there, with all comments screened. That way it's easier and all the mods can see it at once, haha. We could also just let people report their new commissions on the "Current Commissions" post.

8. On that note, mods will also run a catalog of all the volunteers and link to their threads. It will be sorted alphabetically, with whatever the volunteer is offering next to their username (and it could also be sorted by category? like art, etc. I'LL RUN IT IF NO ONE ELSE WANTS TO).

9. If donors don't care/don't know who to choose, they can just ask a mod to give them a random volunteer. All they have to do is specify what they want, such as art, and the mods randomly select an artist for them. This could also be done by fandom/pairing/etc, like if someone wants something about Ace Attorney and doesn't care what medium it's on.
Alternatively, someone could find a javascript thing where a donor just clicks and a thread URL pops up? Might not be as specific, though.

10. SO, PRICES. All currencies are fine, but everything will be translated to USD to make things easier (this is good for that).
So, the value of each donation will be...
Money donation = amount donated
Blood donation = $25
Plasma donation = $30
Charity work = $20 per hour
Donated items = $10 per item

And now for commission prices. Keep in mind that volunteers can tweak these around, this isn't set in stone, it's just a guideline if someone doesn't know what to do (it's also fine if volunteers want to do some silly event, like "Raise $100 to watch me dance!" like I mentioned before):
Art-
Sketch = $5
Lineart = $15
Color = $25
Finished = $35
And maybe +$5 for each extra person (above two people) and +$5 for a background?

Writing-
Drabble = $5
Short story = $15
+$10 per chapter?

Icons-
Three icons = $1

Videos-
FMV = $15
Live action = $35

Music-
Remix = $20
Original = $35

And this isn't ALL people are allowed to do. If someone has something else in mind, they can specify in their app and the mods will think it over :>

11. If a donor makes a request with another person's character in it, then they have to get the original author's permission first, unless it's a gift. Just to avoid people getting upset, haha.

So I guess that about covers it. I hope this isn't too complicated. Anyone got any questions? Suggestions? High fives? EVERYBODY PLEASE COMMENT AAAA (also we'll be sure to put up a suggestion box once it's done, haha).

GOOD GOOD GOOD all looks great!

[identity profile] dia-aren-marie.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'm thinking people aren't THAT HUNGRY FOR PORN so I think PG-13/pushing R( which is R, again? ) is fine. :3

And yeah, all the proof dingos can just be PMed to the mods.

It all sounds good!

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, so donors have to get permission from the mods before requesting, pretty much? :>a I think that could work, I'll put that in the post~

[identity profile] funkicarus.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
looks good to me! course my personal feelings are blood and plasma are worth more but that's because they're like facing down death to someone with an intense phobia WHICH I HAVE YAY

i think we should add in something like 'if you want someone else's original character involved, please get permission first unless it's a gift' just so people don't go googling their characters and find strangers doing art and pitch a fit.

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, should I make 'em worth more? Maybe $25/$30?

Oh, that's a good point! I'll put that in.

[identity profile] funkicarus.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
maybe? at least for plasma, i hear that's much more painful?

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I've never done it before, so I wouldn't know :B Though I'm kind of excited for the charity to start because I really want to donate blood for some reason I HEAR YOU GET A COOKIE

Done! I think having it be higher will encourage people more~

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww I cant give blood for porn D: XD
I dont have time right now but Im going back to your other post and reading more about the charity drive before I give a more thoughtful comment
(it would be nice to know whats going on )

[identity profile] tigerboat.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*HIGH FIVE!!!*

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay I tried to read over both post carefully
but I just woke up and may be of fail XD
Once I started... I just didn't stop x-x

Are there certain charities you would like us to donate to?
would helping out a local church doing community work count?
What about cloths? Would it be $10.00 per bag ?
Would it be okay to give them to goodwill and scan a copy of a receipt?
Are there any you DON'T want us to donate to?

Can we go ahead and join the community ?
Where do I sign up to be a volunteer? Can Volunteers be donors as well?
Is there a specific time limit volunteers have to adhere to? (a day? 2 days? a week?)

Would you consider animated icons to more than $1? They do take more effort.
Also, can we offer Banners, Headers, Sigs, or Friends only banners?
Does the Donor have to provide images or does the Volunteer do it?
Or us it up to the volunteer?

If a donor isn't happy with what they are given, does the volunteer have to redo it or is it a "You get what you get" thing.

How specific can the donors get? Im fairly decent at making graphics but I'm not sure if I could copy an example from a banner (especially if it was made with photoshop). Do you want volunteers to specify what they can and can't do talent wise?

Okay thats it for the mo....
Sorry if a few seem to have common sense answers
or if you answered any and I just didnt catch it ^^;;

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Also what if you can't provide a picture or scan?
I can, but if someone doesn't have a camera how would you want proof that they volunteered?

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, people could always just pick up a little disposable camera in their grocery store check-out line and that'd be fine, haha, or just borrow a camera from someone else or see if whoever they're donating to can take their picture. If they reeeaaallly cannot get a camera, though, then they could try and get the recipient to to send me an e-mail saying "so-and-so donated this much blah blah" and that'd work. If they can't do THAT, then mmmmaaaaybe I could allow them to mail a receipt or something to my PO box, but I kind of doubt my parents would allow that djfghdk

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe if you have to spend money to get a camera and/or scan something in the library or at a Zerox store it could also be worth a small amount?
Scan~$1
Camera~$2
Something like that?
Not to much because people may just start buying camera's to get extra credit <<;;

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Could use my icon journal or do you want me to use my main one and simply reference back to the one that holds my graphics

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean if you can sign up with your icon journal? Because sure, that wouldn't be a big deal or anything, haha, though if people have icon COMMUNITIES then I'd prefer it if people just signed up their mains and referenced dgkjhdf
Also, be sure to let people know it's still you if you switch accounts and stuff, haha. Or just pick an account and stick with it.

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well Id like to reference my icon lj
(it be easier for me to keep straight if I just used this journal XD)
But most of my things are still friends locked
Would that be considered self promotion if I would prefer people to add me first? <<;; Would you mind a bit of self promotion?
Most of my things are not kid friendly and Id like people to decide themselves if they want to join before having that thrown in their face....
(mmm but then maybe I shouldn't reference it.. *headdesk* sorry getting lost in thought)

... Maybe you could have a giant post at the end of the event and people could post where their artwork/graphics/ writing can be found?

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No, don't worry! I'm asking for lots of feedback, hahaha.

-People can donate to whichever charity they want! It's all up to the donor. I asked people if there were any charities we shouldn't donate to and I didn't get replies, so uhhhh I guess there aren't any limits, unless someone speaks up now.
-Well, I have items set at "$10 per item," but I'm kind of wondering if that's too much?

-You can go ahead and join if you want, though it'll be a little while before anything happens in it and I plan on posting an announcement in this LJ when it starts, so you won't miss anything if you don't.
-You can't "officially" sign up to be a volunteer yet, but on April 2nd I'll put up a volunteer sign-up post thing in the comm and then you can, hahaha.
-What do you mean? You mean, like, per request? Because the only time limit for requests is that they have to finish everything by July 1st, which gives everyone about two months. And yes, volunteers can certainly be donors :>

-Hmm, good question! I asked Tiger, and I'm thinking it'll be $1 for three static icons and $1 for one animated icon. If that sounds fair? Again, volunteers are allowed to tweak prices.
-Yes, all of those are totally fine. And as for providing images... well, I'd say yeah, if the donor has something specific in mind--can't have someone just be like GIVE ME ICONS OF THIS SERIES and later turn around and go UGH I WANTED ICONS OF THESE SCREENCAPS JEEZ--but if the donor just wants general icons of a specific character or series or doesn't care or whatever, then that's also fine. It's kinda up to the donor.

-Aaaaahhhh that's a very good question and something I may have to get more opinions on. I think it's something that really depends on the situation, though; I mean, if the donor is just pointing out that, I dunno, their character wears earrings and the volunteer forgot to draw it, then that's not a big deal, but if the donor wants an ENTIRELY NEW THING, then... that's tough. I mean, I don't want to overload the volunteer or risk starting something that people can abuse to get more things, but I also don't want the donors to be unhappy. Maybe volunteers can put it at the very bottom of their to-do list and have it be something they can work on after they're done with everything else? Or maybe the donor should have to pay half-price? And the donor can only get one redo, either per volunteer or once in the whole event?
That's a good question, I need some help with that.

-Well, I wouldn't say they HAVE to, but if the volunteer feels the need to do so, then they should definitely go ahead and do it. I could put up an "Anything Else?" line in the form to give people more freedom with that kinda thing (forgot to add that line before making the post, whooooppppssss).

No, don't worry about it! I want to make sure everything is nice and smooth before it begins, so it's good that you're pointing these things out. I hope more people do the same and offer opinions!

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well I dont know if anyone else does this but I always wash clean and separate any cloths I donate, and usually give to several church organizations around town and the rest to good will.
So $10 sounds good to me XD
But maybe just $5 for each bag of cloths
and $10 for furniture?
But now that I think about it they usually don't itemize the receipts :/
they just write such and such organization and they leave it up to you to add and total what you gave away ....

As for images, maybe it could be up to the volunteer as well?
Maybe they could list restrictions such as: Will/ Will not take specific screen caps (bad ones can make making a good icon mucho harder). Will/Will not take specific colors or saying. Will/Will not add text.
Dunno XD Maybe that's just complicating things <<;;

I don't know if you've thought of this and Im just being pokey but have you thought about maybe having a form for the donars to fill out as well?
Or maybe leave it up to the volunteers to make their own forms for their donars so they can adjust what they want?
This way maybe the "I WANT NARUTO!" Post can be avoided XD

Maybe you can have a specific person deal with unhappy donars, I don't know how big this thing will be but, maybe that could be ONE persons side duty.
They could judge if the complaint is valid or not.
As for redo's I suppose it depends on how big the event is
If alot of people are volunteering, then it's kind of unfair for someone who's taken the time to earn money to only have one do over for the WHOLE event. Once per volunteer sounds more feasible, though it would still have to be watched to make sure people don't go around abusing it

Also~
I was wondering... How is the cash being kept up?
I know that you have to pm proof to the moderator but is it up to each individual or will there be a big post that keeps up with it?
(Maybe you could do something like Suggest people put it in their profile to keep it up? Along with a link back to the Comm. Promotion!)

Feel free to ignore ^^; Just a few suggestions I thought of while looking through the reply

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
$1 per article/outfit of clothing?

[identity profile] saemiligr.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
For the music...
Could there be a time limit/requirement?
Maybe if someone wanted to get creative they could simply sing a specific song or showtoons for fun, and it could be worth around $5 or $10?
I know several people on my live journal that create their own music, maybe we could get singers/guitarist to create little pieces of music people. I don't know how specific they could/or would be willing to get. But paying to have someone create a piece of music just for me... seems pretty damn awesome.

Could their be a category between Drabble and short story worth around $10... <<;; XD I have NO idea what to call it but
My stories usually end up being longer then a drabble but not enough to what I would qualify as a true short story...

... sorry I just keep going over it and getting little Idea's popping up in my head XD just smack me upside the head when you want me to shush

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Replying in one comment since I'm lazy--

Hmm, I dunno about giving extra points to people who have to buy a camera/pay for a scan. I mean, even though they're doin' stuff related to the drive, they're still not really... giving to charity by doing that, haha. It'd kinda be like giving extra points to people who have to pay for the bus, y'know?

Ahh, so you'd just link to your icon LJ for examples? Or do you mean that you'd post peoples' fills in it? Because if it's the former then that'd be great; actually, it'd be a good idea for people to link to their galleries and stuff (if they have 'em) rather than individual things, since it gives people a much better idea of what they're getting. If it's the latter, thennnn I think you should leave the fills public and allow people to friend your icon LJ if they want to, haha.

$5 for articles of clothing and $10 for other stuff might be good, hmm. I'll think about it.

Yeah, that's kind of up to the volunteer, hahaha. If they don't wanna do this or that, then they can put it in the "I WON'T Do" part of the form.

I actually did consider having donors fill out a form, but nahh, I don't think I'll make 'em do that. It might be kind of awkward to do that with all the different mediums goin' on, anyway, ahaha.

Yeah, I dunno! It's hard to have a good balance going, there, since it really depends on each situation. I guess, yeah, if the person wants a complete do-over then the mods can decide on it, but at the same time that kind of sounds like horrible Internet drama just waiting to happen dfgjkdh
Like I said, I'll have to get some more opinions. Thanks for bringing this up!

Well, I was thinking that, since volunteers are going to be reporting to mods with all the requests they get/money they got with that request, then I (or another mod) could just keep track of it that way. I also thought about having volunteers reply to their thread with "Total: $___" in the subject line, for when their thread officially closes, but I'm kind of worried that's a little repetitive when they're already telling us everything (not to mention that they may decide to re-open their thread later). I'm just going with the former, I think, ahaha.

For music/writing-- if that's what they want to do and what they want to charge, I'm fine with that! I don't want to set a whole bunch of limits on this sort of thing since it depends so much on the individual, so I'm kinda leaving things open for people to tweak around how they see fit. The "price list" is just a default to fall back on/have as reference rather than strict rules or anything.

Haha, you're all right! That's what this post is here for! I just hope my replies are helpful.

[identity profile] roaring-softly.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this is a really neat idea... I don't know if I could really add any help or services, but I still think it's a neat idea XD

[identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
You can always donate! Or spread the word, haha.
