WHAT THE FUCK PIXAR WAY TO MAKE EVERYONE CRY LIKE TEN MINUTES INTO THE MOVIE
ADFHGJKAHDFKG OH GOD THAT WAS TOO MUCH
I'm usually an unfeeling dick who never cries at sad things, and I remember being sort of "eh" when I heard people saying that it made them cry right at the beginning, but this wound up being really surprisingly heavy, especially for Pixar. had I watched the movie alone then I would've gone ahead and let loose, but since other people were around then I had to summon up every ounce of macho strength I possess and keep it together. which i did, btw (save for a manly tear or two when Ellie died).
but GOOD GOD it was so hard. i wanted to sob during about 80% of the movie. I usually dislike animal sidekicks, but I loved all of them in this movie, hahah. Also, maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't really get why Charles was so evil. It seemed like he'd be happy that Carl had Kevin, but then he just randomly goes all creepy and starts trying to attack them and it's like uhh what
why the sudden tension
(also how old is he, wtf, carl watched that movie when he was like eight)
speaking of tension, this movie had the most suspenseful action scenes. though maybe it just seems that way to me, since it tapped into my fear of heights the whole time, hahaha
BUT THE STORM AND ALL THE CHASE SCENES and i'd get kind of worried whenever Carl would struggle or hobble, but I have a huge soft spot for old people, so... also, man, am I the only one who was surprised to see blood in a Pixar movie
I really expected Carl to die at the ending, and I'm so glad that he lived and that he and Russel became BFFs, because Carl dying would've been way too much to handle ;_;
man, the short got really depressing/touching, too. stop it, pixar
tl;dr everybody needs to see Up right now. I think it's their best. Just prepare for how unbearably sad it is at points; it has a darker tone to it compared to other Pixar movies, which I really wasn't expecting, despite all the people saying that they pretty much sobbed the whole time. It really does cut deep. (But it's very sweet and funny, too.)
In other news, I'm going out of town for three days, so... yes. I still need to pack, hahaha

Date: 2009-06-15 12:27 pm (UTC)I just think Charles had pretty much went crazy from lack of normal human contact - it explains why he goes to the extent of making collars can make his dogs talk, why he welcomes them with open arms at first all GUESTS ARE A PLEASURE REALLY REALLY please don't leave and then freaks out at the slightest thing. Poor crazy old guy. He must've been like in his 90s are the very least as well wtf.
