That makes me think that he sort of took the story - since it did happen 1000 years ago, or something. Nobody living would remember it. - and perverted it, making it seem like just some story about some kids, rather than Ness and co. foiling his plans. POKEY'S JUST BIG ENOUGH OF A JERK TO DO THAT
