Chain of Screenshots: Part 14

backupdump002So last time we played Chain of Memories I said something about a super special second half of the game, and that I'd explore it as soon as I was done with Christmas stuff. Now that Christmas is long gone, I say it's time we take a gander at what else this game has to offer!
That's right -- we finished Sora's side of the story. NOW IT'S TIME TO LOOK AT RIKU'S! :D Will this explain wtf was up with him being fake or possessed or whatever it was? Will this explain anything at all? I dunno! But we're gonna look, anyway!
I have no idea what you're talking about or what on earth lead up to this.
OUR HERO
Our hero who is apparently not evil. I'm going to guess that that WAS a fake Riku, which is why Sora was like "lol watev" when he left. I'm sticking with that explanation until the game tells me otherwise >O
After that Kairi appeared with no explanation and initiated an ending that made no sense
Thorny like a smattering of cockleburs stuck to your pants
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH
Yeah, sleep IS pretty cool. But you know what isn't cool? Drugs. Talk to your kids today and ensure that they have a bright future that doesn't involve smoking weed at rock concerts or snorting crack in public bathrooms.

SHAGGY AND SCOOBY YOU GO INTO THE KITCHEN AND PROVIDE COMICAL RELIEF BECAUSE THIS SHOW CAN GET REALLY INTENSE I THINK WE NEED TO LIGHTEN IT UP A LITTLE
But didn't he just use the cards and walk through the door himself?

I kept expecting Goofy or someone to come up and be like "well hey dere Riku, who ya talkin' to? :B hyuk" but sadly, no such thing happened.

D Report? DiZ, maybe? I can't remember if I clicked on that or not. If I did then it was either empty or unimportant since I didn't take any screencaps. I'll check on it next episode since I'm too lazy right now.

Aaand battle screen. Battling with Riku is about a billion times more fun than battling with Sora -- Riku is faster, stronger, and barely takes any damage at all. In fact, I went for a long time thinking that he DIDN'T take damage until I got hit several more times and it showed a little sliver of missing HP. The BEST part, though, is that you don't even have to mess with your stupid deck since the game just does it for you. I guess Square made it easier on you this time around as a little reward for finishing the main game, which I greatly appreciate because I did not want to have to fool with leveling up for eternity and dying repeatedly and all that good stuff. I can just fly through this.
Then again, I probably just totally jinxed myself
Level Up screen, which has AP and DP instead of CP and Sleights. Attack Boost raises attack (durr), while Darkness Boost is for "Dark Mode," which you'll learn about later.
Riku's "I leveled up lol" pose, where he turns away from you and puts his sword on his shoulder. Think Squall's pose in FF8.
Also he can jump like some kind of jumping MADMAN

Yeah, that Maleficent is a wiz at feng shui.
Right to the next cutscene, I say!

So did Maleficent just have nothing better to do than stand in that room and wait for people to wander in so she could tell them that she knew they were coming?

That'd actually be a neat little twist. Too bad we're gonna get something nonsensical and campy. YOU HEAR ME, SQUARE?
And why do I get the feeling that this whole conversation has preachy undertones? Stay in school, don't do drugs, keep our land grand, that sort of thing? Maybe I'm just crazy :O

Maleficent is pretty weak this time. In fact, she pretty much just sat there while I beat her repeatedly

Hey, it's that guy. I'm guessing his silhouette changed because he took of his hood or something... or wait, does he even HAVE a hood?
OR WAS IT SOMETHING ELSE, MAYBE?

After this, Riku whipped out his sword and charged at Ansem, but Ansem magically deflected him. I didn't capture that very well, though :<

why does ansem have grey teeth
Speak for yourself, Riku beat the crap out of me the first time I played. Also, does anyone else find it weird that Ansem is ragging on Riku for losing to Sora while being aided by the darkness, when Ansem ALSO lost to Sora while being aided by the darkness? In about twenty different forms, no less?
What? How? Has he fallen and can't get up or something?
COULD IT BE?
It'd be hard to mistake that voice for someone else, I'd imagine
Like a persistent belt salesman.

Ansem also wound up being really puny and weak. WHO'S THE FOOL NOW
Darn, didn't get a card. Now I'll probably have to fight him again.

I hear darkness has a distinct tangy flavor that goes well with trout.
