Mom: *walks up to my door, reaches over the top, unlocks from the other side, lets herself in.* Hey, [name]. What's happenin'.
Me: Nothi--
Mom: *on the phone* Yeah so anyway *walks out*
I just don't know anymore
OKAY
I SET MY ALARM.
I BRUSHED MY TEETH.
I CLEANED MY GLASSES. THOROUGHLY.
I REPLIED TO ALL MY LJ COMMENTS.
I PUT ON SOME COMFORTABLE PANTS.
I ACTUALLY MOVED MY CLEAN CLOTHES FROM MY BEANBAG CHAIR TO MY DRESSER.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?I'm not really sure myself IT'S TIME FOR THE MGS4 COUNTDOWN YEEEEAAAH
GOALS:
MGS3: Normal mode, no Infinity Paint/Stealth Camo/EZ Gun, kill soldiers in as many ways as I can think of for The Sorrow fight (I WANNA SEE WHAT THEY'RE LIKE OKAY), actually try being stealthy rather than running in with guns blazing, try and kill The End early (failing that, try and kill The End the right way, rather than screw with the PS2 clock like I did last time :B).
MPO: I don't have this game, so instead I'm just going to weep and try to build up my nutritional levels by eating things other than Ramen noodles and crackers and these chewy strawberry candy things.
MG: Never played this before, so my goal is to just try and make it through the game without taking a million years.
MG2: See above.
MGS1: Normal mode, no Stealth Camo or Bandanna, don't kill anyone.
MGS2: Normal mode, no bonuses, don't kill anyone.
MGS4: DO EVERYTHING
To avoid the risk of being spammy (since it's not like I have anything real profound to say about these games, anyway, so it's most likely just going to be nothing but capslock and giggling), I'm just going to post all of my thoughts in this entry, rather than make a new one for each day. I WILL make a new entry for MGS4 stuff, though, so anyone reading through this wont be spoiled to hell and back :B
MOVE OUT
-MGS3 is probably the one MGS game I am the least familiar with, so getting a refresher on the plot is very helpful. It sort of seems like you have to play through the whole game at least once before you can really "get" a lot of the subtleties throughout the game, y'know? Or maybe I'm just a moron for not noticing these subtleties in the first place. THIS IS VERY LIKELY
-Oh God, I wasn't expecting the Raikov mask when I said I liked MGS2 (I always say I like MGS1) :B THAT WAS SLIGHTLY STARTLING, AND ALSO VERY KOJIMA
-About the only thought I have regarding the opening cutscene is "JACK IS A SEXY SEXY MAN," so I'll just skip over that.
-Although, lol, that transition from Jack skydiving to Major Zero and Jack expositioning to JACK SKYDIVING SOME MORE always feels so awkward. I ALWAYS MANAGE TO FORGET THE SKYDIVING THING DURING THAT
-Jack: HOME IN TIME FOR DINNER
Zero: NOT UNLESS SOMETHING GOES WRONG
[lengthly cutscene and codec conversation involving Jack losing his backpack in a tree]
-When I first played MGS3 I was pretty much just like THE BOSS IS SO HARDCORE LOL LOOK AT HER BREAK JACK'S ARM, but this time I'm finding myself very touched by a lot of what she says and does. :O I have a feeling that the ending is going to be a hundred times more heartbreaking because of this.
-GOD FREAKING CROCODILES I HATE THEM AND I ALWAYS GET SO NERVOUS WHEN I HAVE TO GO THROUG HTHOSE FREKAING SWAMPS THAT ARE EVEYRTHWER AND I AWLYAS STEP ON THEM AND KA FKREAING HEOAHWLKAHFJKGH AKLERHT ALEJKLG
-Haha, maybe it's because I haven't slept much, but The Boss being like THE POINT OF CAMOUFLAGE IS TO BE ONE WITH NATURE and the closeup of your camo-meter in the corner is making me laugh. I AM 90% IN TUNE WITH NATURE, BROTHER. AWWWWW YEEEEAH
-Awwwww, I love Sokolov so much. When he's doing those karate moves and he's so nervous and scared all the time and awwwww. And y'know, out of all the character designs in the series, I think I love Sokolov's the most. It's the coat and monocle, man.
-Ocelot is so hilarious, I'm sorry. This doesn't change for me when he gets older, either. In fact, the thought of him going from a meowing, gun-twirling, hand-gesturing, Jack-loving tard to this scary old man with an angry British guy in his arm only makes him even more hilarious. And I say this as affectionately as possible.
Speaking of Jack-loving, I didn't even know that was canon until I read someone's spoiler post where they mentioned Ocelot being gay for Jack and stuff. APPARENTLY THERE'S A CODEC CONVERSATION I MISSED? OR WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION TO? Either way, I'll have to look out for the subtext this time, because this subject intrigues me.
-So I had Jack take his shirt off sometime before The Boss beats him up (DON'T JUDGE ME), and man, you know what's really cool? He actually has smudges and stuff all over his body when he washes up on shore :O I think he even had some bruises where The Boss hit him, but I'm not 100% sure. I LOVE DETAILS LIKE THESES, DON'T MIND ME
-I can never help but lol whenever EVA gives Jack that gun. THROWS CIGAR TO THE GROUND, HOLDS IT TENDERLY, THIS IS INCREDIBLE
-UH, I THINK I FAILED AT KILLING THE END EARLY. I THINK. IF THAT WAS WHERE YOU KILL HIM ANYWAY. WE'LL SEE?
-God, I don't know why, but I started seriously screwing up when I had to sneak around Granin Lab. As in, that whole place took me at least an hour to get through. I completely forgot that you didn't have to interrogate anybody and could just go and find the room yourself, which wasted a ton of time. I forgot how to put people in a choke hold, so I called Zero about it and promptly suffered from a mini stroke or something because I didn't even hear him say anything about pressing O to grab people, and instead just heard him say to "press L3 to interrogate." I thought that was the same thing, so I found this one scientist and snuck up behind him and quickly changed gear and everything, and then executed my masterful strategy of mashing L3 like crazy while blurting out WHY ISN'T IT WORKING AM I NOT CLOSE ENOUGH HE'S GOING TO TURN AROUND until the guards burst in. I'd run off, go hide in an air duct until everyone calmed down (WHY DOES THE CAUTION METER GO DOWN SO SLOWLY), then come back out and repeat. And repeat. And repeat. And sometimes I'd try and punch the scientist in the face a few time when he spotted me so I could keep him from running to the alarm, but the guards always seemed to somehow telepathically know that the scientist was in trouble whenever he spotted me, so that didn't work. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
FINALLY, I called Zero again, and this time I learned about holding down O. So I ran back to that same scientist (that was probably the most terrifying night of his life) and successfully grabbed him, and you know what I do?
I ACCIDENTALLY SLICE HIS THROAT
AUGIAHEGKHADLGHIHNAEORGHNAL
So I find another scientist and start stalking him for a while, which winds up with me having to take cover several more times, and eventually getting fed up and just shooting the guards. After that, I went back to where the scientist was (why don't they ever seem to recognize you, anyway? You'd think someone who repeatedly tried to put you in a choke hold would be hard to forget) and grabbed him, and this time I tried to be careful to not press O too hard or anything, which resulted in me letting him go by accident several times. And then eventually slicing his throat. Oh my God.
AT THIS POINT, a couple of other scientists ran in to see what all the commotion was about, and they started screaming and running around when they saw me and stuff. At this point I was so tired that I just didn't care about stealth or anything anymore, so I started chasing them around and grabbing them randomly while trying to dodge guards, and everything was moving so fast that it was hard to keep track of what I was doing, and I eventually wound up slamming both of the scientists into the ground and knocking them out. Loling uncontrollably at my failure, I went into an office to see if there were anymore scientists around, and finally, FINALLY, AT LONG LAST, FOUND THE FREAKING DOOR FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY JESUS MOTHERLOVING CHRIST GODDAMN I WISH SOMEONE HAD BEEN THERE WITH A CAMERA BECAUSE MY EXPRESSION WAS PROBABLY PRICELESS
And then I went along with the game as normal. FRIGGING A. THAT WAS DEFINITELY THE BIGGEST DURRRRRR MOMENT I'VE HAD THUS FAR. I DON'T KNOW IF I'LL BE ABLE TO TOP THAT, BUT THEN AGAIN I TEND TO SURPRISE MYSELF IN THAT DEPARTMENT. I AM SO GOOD AT THESE GAMES.
-I died a few times when fighting The Fear, but it didn't seem too bad compared to the way I'd been screwing up beforehand (why is it so hard to see anything in this game I swear. I keep losing track of Jack and running right into enemies and the camera is terrible and arkgjharg). There was one point where I had been fighting him for a while and NEARLY had him dead, and then ran RIGHT into a freaking pitfall and died. I ONLY HAD TO SHOOT HIM A FEW MORE TIMES ARGH
Anyway, after that I went into a nerdrage and started shooting the living crap out of him with an AK-47. I won the battle in about one minute. One freaking minute. Two, at the most. DAMN YOU FEAR
-Speaking of fear and stuff, what emotion would Jack carry into battle? Hmmmm.
-------------------
-So I guess I didn't kill The End early. Durrr. I went through with the fight (took about 1 1/2 to 2 hours) and got to see The End's death scene for the first time, which is cool. I kind of feel sorry for the old guy; he seems like he'd be a cool person to hang out with when he's alive and not shooting you and stuff.
OH MAN and right before I killed him I was sort of creeping around the map he was on and scanning around with the Thermal Goggles and the SVD scope, and once I was convinced that he moved on to another map I went out of first person view and he was STANDING RIGHT BEHIND ME
I LET OUT THE MOST RIDICULOUS YELL EVER AND HE SHOT ME AND RAN OFF LAUGHING, and as he was running off I quickly equipped my XM16E1 and started blasting away in his general area, and eventually I landed a shot and finished him off. I ARM PUMPED. MAN THAT WAS SO EPIC I WISH I HAD THAT ON TAPE
-Haha, Jack and I seem to share the same opinions on movies. He and Para-Medic's movie conversations actually make me want to watch some, though, which is odd since I'm not much of a movie person at all :B
-GOD JACK IS SO ADORABLE AGH I WISH HE WAS REAL SO I COULD HUG HIM sorry
-Jeez, I hate it when EVA asks Jack about The Boss and then keeps hounding him about them being "lovers" or whatever. I like EVA and everything, but I always just want to punch her in the face during that. Especially the "Does it always have to be about love and hate?" "Between a man and a woman? You bet." exchange. It's deeper than that okay arrrrggggghhhhh
-So what was The Fury's problem again? He went to space and that pissed him off for some reason and so now he has to set everything on fire, or what?
-God, that torture scene is so awful. When Volgin lands a punch and there's sort of this wet crunching noise and ugh
Though, from an intellectual point of view, I think the way they executed it was great! 8D Not being able to see anything at first and just listening and waiting for Volgin to get to you, the way the controller vibrates whenever you're hit... it's just so creepy and great. I wonder how they'll top that in MGS4 (you know they'll have one, it wont be an MGS game without it)? That'll be especially terrible with Old Snake and everything, man D: Unless they use a different character. WHAT IF IT'S OTACON? GOD I CAN'T DECIDE IF THAT WOULD BE WORSE THAN SNAKE OR NOT okay now i'm just scaring myself
-wtf, when did Jack get covered in arrows. He gets thrown in a cell and suddenly there's like three arrows sticking out of his chest and what
-------------------
-You know, I've never done the nightmare mini-game before. THAT WAS KIND OF STARTLING but also adorable :B Jack is scared of Dracula, awwwww. Makes me think of when I was a little kid who watched Dracula for the first time and went to bed that night with the light on while repeating THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS VAMPIRES THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS VAMPIRES to myself. Except I don't think I had nightmares about it. Hahahaha
-Dangit, Johnny. I wanted to see that cutscene with him, but when I spun Snake around and made him vomit he got all mad at me for tricking him :( Or maybe he was upset because I killed a rat in front of him. Or maybe I accidentally nicked him with the fork while I was killing the rat. BUT THAT'S NO REASON TO JUST START UNLOADING BULLETS INTO ME, JEEZ
-Man, The Sorrow is probably my favorite boss out of all the others in this series. I died a couple of times at first since my health was really low, but then I realized I had some Life Meds and everything was okay again :V It was also a lot shorter than I expected, considering I killed hundreds of soldiers and everything (does the amount lessen if you use a continue, or what?). I WAS EXPECTING THE SORROW TO HAVE A VERY LONG TALK WITH ME BUT I GUESS HE HAD A HEADACHE
-GOD VOLGIN KEPT KILLING ME THAT DROVE ME NUTS >( Although I like how Ocelot cheers you on and everything, heh. And how angry Volgin gets about it. CUT IT OUT OCELOT I MEAN IT GOSH
-Am I the only one who doesn't have the faintest idea of where to go in that jungle maze thing with EVA? I got lost in there for like... an hour and a half. It's also a bit shorter than I remember, which just makes me feel even more retarded.
I did have fun putting EVA to sleep, though |D Then I'd shoot her in the foot when I needed her to get up. JUST A LITTLE WAKE UP TAP
-The Boss gave me a lot of trouble at first, but eventually I crouched somewhere and started sniping her, which did the trick. That battle is really about the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a game before.
I've mentioned this before, but if you have to do something like pull the trigger on Snake or anything in MGS4, I am going to cry so hard.
-The ending made me feel pretty weepy this time around, but I didn't actually cry or anything. It's still a pretty tough pill to swallow, but at least it cleared a few things up for me. I think I'll leave the meta for someone who puts more thought into these games, though. :B
-------------------
Day 4: Free!
Day 5: Free!
-------------------
-Fell behind by about a day due to laziness. Gonna try and beat MG2 AND get to where I need to be in MGS1 in one day, but we'll see how that works out, heh.
-... not a whole lot to say about this game, really. I like the music and the translation is hilarious (UNIFORMS? ARE THEY CUTE LITTLE SAILOR SUITS? OVER). A lot about this game is hilarious, actually, like Snake punching down solid walls with his bare hands. Especially considering the fact that he does test-punches all along the rest of the wall to see where the sound is off and everything. I'M SURPRISED SNAKE'S HAND ISN'T BRUISED AND BLOODY AND BROKEN IN LIKE TWELVE DIFFERENT PLACES BY THE END OF THE GAME
-I would love to see a remake of this game. WOULDN'T IT BE AWESOME TO SEE SNAKE AND BIG BOSS COMMUNICATE OMG
-------------------
-Again, not a whole lot to say, other than I couldn't stop thinking of this the entire time, which made things completely hilarious.
-JACK WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO ALL CRAZY THIS IS DEPRESSING
-------------------
-This game feels so... different from when I last played it. The dialogue seems different, the music seems different, the controls... then again, I've also been awake for about 40 hours, so that might have something to do with it.
-fgudfhgdgh i had all these things i was going to say and now my mind is a blank. I knew I should've taken notes.
-I can't get over just how... graceful Snake is. When he lowers himself from that air duct and into the DARPA chief's cell, there's just so much control in all of his movements, and yet they're still incredibly fluid and effortless. I don't know why I was so struck by that this time. I'M GAY FOR SNAKE, DON'T MIND ME
-Haha, I never realized how different Snake is from Jack. Now I see why people say Jack is more naive than Snake is. In MGS3, that is.
-I haaaaated Meryl when I first played the game, but now she's actually really grown on me. I don't know why! I guess I'm just starting to notice and accept her personality traits a bit more.
I do think that the Snake/Meryl side-plot was handled kind of badly, though. It just feels way too much like a I'M THE LEAD MALE AND YOU'RE THE LEAD FEMALE AND SO THAT MEANS WE MUST FALL IN LOVE BY THE END OF THE GAME dynamic, which I am so tired of seeing.
-So why did Liquid help Snake while he was disguised as Miller? Y'know, warning him about Naomi and everything? Hmmmmmm.
-Man, Wolf's death is just so lovely and eerie. omg.
-fkgjhdsf so I started out Raven's battle by just standing behind boxes and firing NIKITAs, but towards he end he walked up in front of me and started firing, so I took out my assault rifle and fired back, and we both just stood there shooting the everloving crap out of each other until Raven eventually died. GOD I WISH I HAD THAT ON TAPE
I had a pretty epic Raven battle when I first played, actually. We were both low on health, and I was trying to sneak up on him but he winds up turning around and facing me, and we both fired our weapons at the same time and the screen went all white for several moments... and then it shows the next cutscene. AGAIN, I WISH I HAD THAT ON TAPE
-I was seeing a looooooot of hints that Snake is going to die in MGS4, which makes me worried :< Snaaaaaake
-I like how Liquid can take several missiles to the face, get beaten and knocked from a fatal height, AND get shot a million times, and it barely even slows him down, but then Snake headbutts him a few times and he's knocked out. GOOOOOOOO MGS
-I really really loved Gray Fox this time. Maybe it's because I finally played Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, but I absolutely adored him this time around. I NEED TO DRAW FANART
-THE CARIBOU ARE BEAUTIFUL TONIGHT
-I beat this game in aboooooout 6 or 7 hours, which is a new record for me~ 8D I also got a Mongoose ranking. IS THAT GOOD? SOMEONE TELL ME
NOW TO PLAY AS MUCH MGS2 AS I CAN BEFORE MGS4 TAKES ME INTO ITS LOVING ARMS

Date: 2008-05-31 06:54 pm (UTC)That explains it, though, because I pretty much never use the codec in MGS3 |D; I guess it's because it's kind of laggy for me for some reason? I dunno. ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP, I'LL HAVE TO TRY THAT

Date: 2008-06-02 07:32 am (UTC)OH MAN FFXII I still need to beat that one, too |B I was so busy gaping over the scenery that I completely forgot what I was supposed to be doing.
Man, I was furiously gay for Snake before I ever even played the games. I DON'T THINK IT'S POSSIBLE TO NOT BE GAY FOR SNAKE, PERSONALLY
