Hey, I have kind of a weird question--

Do you prefer bleeps or silence (or some other noise) when it comes to censoring? Do you find particular options annoying or distracting?

I was just sort of wondering about this because I was talking to a friend a while ago, and I prefer bleeps because it continues the noise so it feels more like it... is part of the sentence or something while she prefers silence since the bleeps are jarring to her. So now I'm all curious about what other people think dkjfgh. LET ME KNOW

Aaaaand as long as I'm posting, I'm going to go ahead and mash this in here because I've been running into it a bit: Uhh, if you think I'm not paying enough attention to you, then chances are I have no idea whether you want me to or not, hahaha. I have a bad habit of going PFF WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO TALK TO ME WHO CARES by default, so I just sort of assume that anyone friending this journal is doing it for link posts or something and if someone doesn't initiate an IM conversation then they don't want to talk/are busy, without really considering that it could go both ways and the other person is assuming the exact same thing. IT'S A VICIOUS CYCLE
SO
Let me know about that, too! Don't feel pressured to say anything either way; I'm not going to cry if you don't comment, and I'm not going to bite your head off if you say you want to talk to me more. I'M JUST TRYING TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS since I'm kind of a moron at reading between the lines and things like that, ahahaha.

I have had "Womanizer" stuck in my head since yesterday why wont it stop

WOMANIZER OH WOMANIZER BABY

YOU YOU YOU ARE

YOU YOU YOU

sorry

And I personally prefer NO CENSORING. FREE SPEECH FOR EVERYONE RAAAAH uh but i like silence better 'cause the bleeps jar me. :x It's like "Conversation conversation BLEEEEEEEEP back to natural-sounding conversation" and it just bugs me. xD

BOY DON'T TRY TO FRONT I (I) KNOW JUST (JUST) WHAT YOU ARE AH-AH

Hahaha, silence just throws me off, I don't know. It makes speech sound so halted and weird to me.

Bleeps are good if censoring is necessary, but I also enjoy the substitutes: "Fuck you" = "Flip you", etc. I just find them really amusing.

I actually don't really like either, though if pressed, I'd say the bleeps are more jarring because of the high pitch they're usually at. Silence is at least amusing in a way, because they even bother to stop the MUSIC in video clips along with it. Though, really, if you're gonna air a song that has curses in it on a family-friendly channel, then the problem may lay elsewhere.
Frankly, half-assed attempts by the singer to override it irritate me. This shhh is bananas, indeed.

I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU TOO BUT I NEVER HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY. D:
I do enjoy reading your journal and talking over comments, but when I see your name on my IM list, I think 'hey, I shoudl say hi to Dox...but what do I say? What if there's a totally lame awkward silence ajlkg oh never mind.'
This is why I tend to let other people initiate IM conversations, too. :V

Aaaahhh, I hate it when I download a song expecting it to be uncensored and then it's not. FFFFF YOU I WON'T DO THIS SHHHHH like an angry student afraid of a teacher overhearing or something
Actually, come to think of it, when it comes to MUSIC I hate it when there's bleeps and greatly prefer silence (if I have to choose, anyway, haha). It's jarring during regular speech, though, for some reason. :Oa

DUDE I KNOW I have no idea how to strike up conversations and keep them going akdhjgfa. That's the main reason why I let other people just come to me (aside from shyness and being afraid that the other person is busy/cranky/doesn't want to talk to me/something dkfjgh). I've found that it kind of helps to just... keep having conversations with someone, though, because after a while you warm up to each other and don't really NEED a topic to talk about; you can make something out of anything. It's just GETTING to that point that's hard, hahaha.

I prefer bleeps. Silences really break up the dialogue for me, and if there's a whole string of censored words in a row, silence in place of the words makes the sentence really difficult to understand.

Although I really just prefer uncensored, because both of them break up the flow of dialogue.

Haha, yeah, bleeps or silence can both be irritating if there's a ton of them in a row. Not even the uncensored words will make a lot of sense in those cases, they just sound like vague noises dfkjgh

Bleeps are usually good. Silence just bothers me because it's harder to figure out what was said and such... redoing the dialogue also bothers me because it usually sounds nothing like the original and you can tell it's been redone and it's annoying :|

of course, uncensored stuff is the way to go but stuff has to be ~family friendly~ and such because words are SO DANGEROUS

SUCK MY MALLS
CENSOR IN ZOOLANDER ON TV

i still think SILENCEEEE makes it less jarring but yesyes uncensored is better

I HAVE NO IDEA IF ANY OF THIS IS DIRECTED AT ME
AT ALL
BUT
i am kind of terribly haltingly e-shy? WHICH I GUESS IS KIND OF WEIRD
but whenever anyone ims me I AM ALWAYS SUPER EXCITED TO TALK

NAHH it's for everyone, not particular people or anything, hahaha.

YEAH I'M KINDA THE SAME I am ridiculously shy but I'm still always open for talking with people, even if it takes a while for me to warm up. I just hope they don't mistake my quietness for me being uninterested or anything akdfjghak

Hmm. If you want to do censoring (as in, intentional comic censoring), I don't mind bleeps, but I like more creative stuff too. See Monty Python's "I Bet You They Won't Play This Song On The Radio" or Weird Al's segment of NIN's Closer in "The Alternative Polka".

I prefer bleeps or RIDICULOUS NOISES.

Like in Baby Looney Tunes when they had to talk about SWEAR WORDS they censored stuff with RUBBER DUCKY NOISES ahahaha

Silence is fine, but I get confused because it STOPS, you know?
