Mom's birthday was today! Or y-yesterday, since it's pretty late right now, but whatever
Anyway, I started to make something nice and wound up making a goofy-looking turtle instead. I was laughing so hard while I was making it, I don't even know. She liked it a lot, though, so that's all that matters.

ANYWAY [livejournal.com profile] kihanna posted some old art a little while ago, so I was inspired to go through some of my old sketchbooks. It... yeah, they're completely hilarious. I was REALLY obsessed with Neopets back in the day, so my old sketchbooks are pretty much nothing but NEOPETS NEOPETS NEOPETS for years, haha. To be fair, Neopets used to be really cool. Does anyone remember that ski lodge murder mystery thing they had where all the Neopets staff members were killed off? And when Dr. Sloth was introduced akfgjhak I remember having such a hard time sitting still at school because I HAD TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT OMG

Uhhhh what was I saying, I just went on this unrelated ramble
OH RIGHT yeah old art, yeah

WHO SCANS THINGS STRAIGHT
NOT I
Anyway, when I was a kid I used to go to this Pokemon IRC chat, one of my names on there was "Blue Kirby," I made some friends on there and wound up drawing comics about us having adventures for some reason, etc. So I drew this comic a long time ago where this guy called the SHADOW GHOST (based off of a "true" ghost story the family would tell, used to be really freaked out by it) made an evil clone out of Blue Kirby and, uhhhh, I completely forget what happens except that there's loads of fighting (all my old comics were pretty much nothing but flimsy excuses for AWESOME FIGHT SCENES) and I eventually got bored at the end and had Blue Kirby kill off Clone with that kamehameha thing from Dragonball Z.
I was like seven okay
So this ridiculous thing takes place later, after I did another comic where Blue Kirby and co. fight some mod I didn't like and Clone comes back from the dead and helps them and is killed again or something dkfjghdk why am i so lame

Oh yeah, I was about eight or nine when I did this sketchbook. I loved Blue Kirby a lot, I guess, hahaha

PUPPETS, SERIOUSLY
WHY IS THAT A BIGGER DEAL THAN REVIVING THE DEAD AHJKFDHAKHG

YEAH THIS BACKUP IS AWESOME

uh oh this is getting intense

i will never stop laughing at mew just
randomly smacking into a cliff
I never continued it from here, and I don't think I ever did another Blue Kirby comic after this. ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES
I really ought to scan the other BK comics.

Another short-lived comic series. Pretty much about a single, gay father and his two (adopted?) daughters being all wacky. I still kind of like it, I dunno. I don't know why Skish and the dad keep switching places, though, what

Hahaha it's probably pretty obvious that I had no idea what electricity bills were actually like. I just knew that Mom and Dad were always complaining about them, so I figured they were ridiculously high.

I have not changed at all

I did "commercials" when I first started this sketchbook, then got lazy later on. NO I CAN'T FINISH ANYTHING

FROGGY NEEDS YOUR MONEY

HAHAHA oh god. This is based off a billboard we saw about GAS WITH ATTITUDE, completely cracked us all up.

UGH THE COMMERCIALS IN THIS SKETCHBOOK ARE RIDICULOUS, SOMEONE CHANGE THE CHANNEL

Aww, old FF7 fanart.

ahahahahaha oh god i tried to draw her boobs kdfjghakdfghka

playin' a prank~*~*~ I don't think I had even gotten to the materia-stealing part when I drew this. I either read about it online or this is some kind of amazing coincidence

Doing "illustrations" for my Cybunny's tl;dr emo past. WHO CAN TELL WHAT'S GOING ON

YEAH I forgot where I was going with that
I don't think I ever got around to finishing the story

I kept messing up on some pictures, so I got all frustrated. I've never had much confidence art-wise, haha

Based off of this stupid thing I wrote wayyyy back in the day. Apparently that guy has pockets floating outside of his trenchcoat dkfjghd

UGH WHAT'S WITH ALL THIS "SETTING UP" CRAP, WHERE'S THE ACTION

MUCH BETTER

I DON'T THINK EVEN I REALLY KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING WITH THIS SCENE afdkhgjd I just used "IT'S ANOTHER WORLD" as an excuse for why the cops are so hyper-sensitive about clothes racks
I still kinda like the "oh crap" panel, I dunno

SUDDENLY, SPIDERMAN
in other words I got bored AGAIIIN and decided to draw other stuff, haha. THAT WAS THE END OF THE ACTION SCENE ANYWAY, IT'S JUST A BUNCH OF INTERROGATING AFTER THAT

what

SUPERHERO OR SOMETHING i was really into superheroes, what the

More gay

SHEEP IN THE BIG CITY
DID ANYONE ELSE WATCH THAT SHOW

Moving on to the next sketchbook. I think I was nine or ten when I did this?
Whoever was making the footprints in the title was hopping, apparently

GUESS WHAT
I DIDN'T FINISH THIS EITHER DFJKGHDKfdjkghdk i am so bad

so original

Then I drew some AWESOME MONSTERS

hahaha "serphant"

SPIKE WOLF
WITH... FLIPPERS

PANDOM EVNIAL

i kinda like bonbom, though

yeah, awesome

AND TO FINISH OFF (SINCE THIS IS GETTING WAY TOO BIG):

ARAZI, DEFENDER OF JUSTICE
I WONDER WHERE THIS COMIC IS GOING also lol "unbearably thirty"
I was so proud of Arazi (or "Yikoni," later, since the name "Arazi" was taken), though, and I had planned to turn it into a series to submit to the Neopian Times (never did). I still remember drawing it; I was in Seattle, watching something about snakes on Animal Planet and making this thing up as I went along (though I'm sure it wouldn't have been any less ridiculous if I had my full attention on it). I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I was drawing it, but now I look back on it and cannot stop laughing

Hahahaha I didn't waste any time with this. ALL RIGHT SHE'S A SUPERHERO NOW LET'S GET TO THE ACTION CHOP CHOP

Also I couldn't spell "minute"

HOW DID I DO THAAAAATTT DURRRRRRRR
IT'S LIKE I HAVE SUPERPOWERS

jeez arazi took to the whole "preachy superhero speeches" schtick immediately didn't she

WHERE DID SHE GOOOOOOOOOO
I JUST WATCHED HER RUN DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE SHE WEEEENNNTTTT

also oh god I hope everyone is ready for the next page
it is amazing

I DON'T
I JUST
I
WHAT
WHY
WHY
WHY DID SHE BURST INTO EMO POETRY
I DON'T EVEN
OH GOD I AM THE LAMEST PERSON EVER WHAT IS THIS
WHY DID I EVER THINK THIS WAS AWESOME
ALSO WOULD I STOP GOING :P ALREADY that is such an annoying smiley

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE

I have no idea what is happening in the 2nd panel or why is takes Arazi/Yikoni an hour to find a hotel room

Maid service comes in right after the ship sets sail
uhhhhh okay
also lol those names

AHAHAHAHAHA I used to have characters blurt out their life stories and shed a single tear like all the time, what was wrong with me
lol obviously setting up the bad guys here OMG "HELPING PEOPLE" WHAT IS THIS GET AWAY
also check out my "screentones"

what "they don't look like they'd be good friends" THAT IS SO JUDGMENTAL
ALSO CAN'T YOU ENJOY THE CRUISE FOR A WHILE, WHAT'S THE RUSH
WHAT
WHAAAAATTTTT
And then I cut it off here since I had already written a lot of it on the computer and I'm lazy. I really wish I had kept going, though, because I lost the story itself wkfjghd

OKAY THIS IS GETTING TOO BIG but I definitely have to scan some more later, because this really isn't the worst of it at all
YOU GUYS OUGHT TO GO RAID SOME OLD SKETCHBOOKS/FOLDERS/WHATEVERS, TOO

oh god when did it get so late dfkghjd i'm gonna look at this tomorrow and be like "what"

SHEEP IN THE BIG CIIITY!!!11 <333

Oh wow we drew REALLY similarly back in the day (especially the FFVII kind-- I don't think I ever did draw for it, but the style is so similar it's both freaky and interesting 8D)

Haha whoa, neat. DO YOU HAVE EXAMPLES

I DO ACTUALLY I just have to dig them up

oh man I adored Sheep in the Big City, I'm sure so much of my sense of humour originates from that show - that and Courage the Cowardly Dog, probably. Surreal, sarcastic black humour in a eight-year-old...for the win, I guess?

haha oh man, the comics that just make no sense with ridiculous angsty backstories that come out at the drop of a hat. Glad I'm not the only one, then. I used to draw variations of dragons with ridiculous names though, as opposed to monsters.

More people should do this, IT'S VERY INTERESTING.

I loved Courage, too! I remember it used to freak me out, haha, but I'd still always watch it. naaaauuughtyyyy
Cartoons used to be so weird back in the day, it was the best. I remember my top favorites being Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Animaniacs, and Freakazoid, which... probably explains why I have such a weird sense of humor, ahahahaha. though I'm sure family and the Internet didn't help much

I mainly just liked making up my own monsters because of Pokemon/Neopets/Monster Rancher/Digimon/probably something else :B I remember trying to come up with "my own" monster series (READ: RIPOFF), which I lost interest in immediately. I DID WRITE DOWN SOME INFO AND DRAW STUFF, THOUGH
IT'S... YEAH

Heh, Courage used to freak my parents out, but I was just immune and morbidly facsinated. Rocko's Modern Life and Animaniacs were amazing as well, haha. I think I watched Freakazoid, but I don't think it was ever on much here.

I miss how bizarre most cartoons were, you get the occasional one that's a bit surreal - like Chowder has this really weird but really pretty visual style and Flapjack is bizarre. But a lot of it seems too watered down and...normal. Like Billy and Mandy would be like...modern Courage, maybe, but when I watch it it doesn't seem weird or freaky enough.

yeah blahblah cartoons, I can talk about cartoons in waaay too much detail.

It's weird that you mentioned Flapjack, because I was just watching it yesterday and thinking the same thing; that it reminded me a lot of older cartoons. I mean, granted, I haven't exactly been keeping up with cartoons lately or anything, but it seems like all the stuff I've seen is just... I don't know, normal, like you said. A lot of it seems like they're just these slice-of-life sitcoms about teenagers going to school or something, and if it's not that, then the humor is so... I don't know, predictable? Unfunny? It just doesn't have that same "twist" to it that older cartoons had.

But I dunno, maybe I just can't relate to them? A lot of older cartoons appealed to the older crowd as much as the younger, so I can still watch things from them and laugh, but newer cartoons seem like they're ONLY for kids, y'know? It can be a little hard to get into, haha.

I tend to keep up with cartoons, since I have a pretty active interest in animation (I must be the only one to squee over stuff like that I swear) but I haven't seen Flapjack or Chowder in full yet, since they're not on British TV yet.

I don't understand the appeal of a normal sitcom in cartoon form. I know some people prefer using that medium, but to me the entire appeal of animation is being able to smoothly do things you'd never be able to do in live-action. And yeah, it does seem to rather predictable and not very funny, but I guess to some extent we just know cartoon tropes better, so we generally can guess what's coming.

Another thing that turns me off is how stiff the animation is sometimes, I prefer traditional medium, really smooth, curvy lined stuff so maybe that's just me, hurr.

HIGH FIVE

Oh man, I vaguely remember Sheep in the Big City... didn't watch it much, though.

I miss Neopets the way it used to be. I keep thinking, "Hey, maybe I should go start another account at Neopets, just for something to do..." and then I actually go look at the site and it's become a complete atrocity since I left.

Also, I think your misspelling of "minute" makes the comic much more interesting.

"Hey wait, a minuet!"
(Bach appears with piano and begins to play; all action stops and characters break into spontaneous dance routine)

I'd always forget to watch it! I never knew when it was on. What's "memorizing schedules," pff
I remember liking what I watched, though. The first episode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4lg5e-d67E) is on YouTube, if you wanna ~*~go down memory lane~*~

ME TOO FFFFFFFFFFFF Neopets used to be so much fun
Not to mention that they make you enter your birthday to sign in old accounts, which pretty much blocks all the eight-year-olds who faked their ages back in the day. I can't even log in and be all nostalgic goddamn

ahahahadkjghdk i wish i had done that
