for all the artists reading this: do you guys ever show your art to family? what kind (all of it, some of it)? i was just wondering, since every now and then i think about starting a little made-for-family gallery (in that it filters out some of the more bizarre things i tend to draw), but whenever i think about showing what i've drawn to family members (and even certain irl friends), i just... feel embarrassed. i dunno. maybe some of it's just that my family has been so supportive of it and act like i'm this really stellar artist all like YEAH I BET DOX CAN GET INTO ANY ART SCHOOL EVER NO PROBLEM when they haven't even SEEN my art since i was, like, nine, and i'm really just... average, at best. i guess i just don't know what they're expecting to see. i have no idea how i even GOT this reputation for being an amazing artist HAHAHA it's like i just say that i like to draw as a hobby and people assume all sorts of things
but yeah, what does everyone else do
(as a note, i'm talking more about extended family than immediate)

so, john's situation got worse. he realized a while ago that the burglars also took his bag, which contained checkbooks, tax info, and his social security number, AND apparently this morning he came out to find someone had threw a rock through the window of sherah's car, because she accidentally left her phone in there. sherah also mentioned that a guy down the street got shot in the back the other night, and that the police told her that crime's been increasing and hasn't been this bad since the 90's or something like that. someone on facebook mentioned that the area he lives in kind of sucks in general, though; apparently people there have taken to just leaving their cars unlocked so they don't have to replace the windows.

LONG STORY SHORT, JOHN IS TRYING TO SELL HIS HOUSE MORE THAN EVER AND IS NOW THINKING OF MOVING OUT OF SEATTLE AND TO OLYMPIA. he's been thinking of moving out of seattle for a while now, actually, and since he only goes into the office twice a week and sherah's college is in olympia, it'd work pretty well. we shall see.

Well I'm not an artist per se, but I doodle a lot and no I never show my stuff to my family, I don't think they're really interested but most of all I guess there are some hints of embarrassment on my end :B

Making a gallery just for them sounds awesome if they're interested. That's fantastic that you DO have family that's supportive and interested and SHOW it. I think you should hush and go do it! [:

Unfortunately my family never shows interest in my work, and sometimes I really wish they would. It's kinda disheartening them only being "oh yeah that's nice" all the time. It makes me feel I can never impress them no matter how hard I try.

And man, you've been improving, like, a ton. You seem to be getting better and better each time you post. SERIOUSLY!

it can kinda feel like they're JUST saying that, though, considering they haven't seen my art in like ten years, haha. i'm starting to feel bad that i've kept it all to myself, though.

well, for me... my family has been supportive, but it seems like none of them are really actively interested in it. they never make an effort to see it or ask questions about it or anything, and when they do they're just usually like "ohh cool" rather than super enthusiastic or anything like that. my mom's the only person in my family who i show artwork to semi-regularly, and it's very rare for her to ever initiate it. soooo i don't think they're all that into it, but they've just been supportive about the fact that i do it. which is all right with me, but just... i dunno, i guess i've been wondering if i should actually show it to them.

I never show my family art-related stuff other than schoolwork, because that tends to be unembarressing. So yeah, setting aside two or three pieces you're comfortable letting them see's probably a cool idea

Haha I think most of my family knows I can draw, although heck if I'm comfortable with them seeing everything I draw. :O SOMEHOW I DON'T THINK THE GAY PORN WOULD GO OVER VERY WELL

Although they're all okay with furries though, since Mom always asks me to draw her kitty disco pictures for holidays and stuff and Alix has the pictures I drew him for his birthday near his computer, so that doesn't weird them out at all. |D

I GUESS MAKE A MORE FAMILY-SAFE GALLERY?? IDK if my grandparents like wanted to see my art that's probably what I would do
