I really use this icon too much.
Mar. 2nd, 2008 08:21 pmSO HEY I just got back from St. Louis. Well, not really "just," I guess, since that was, like... yesterday afternoon. But yeah! It was just Mom and I, and we were only gone for two days (though it felt like we were gone for weeks). We did it partially because Mom wanted to sell some of her needlepoint to various shops (and wound up making around $800!), and partially because we wanted to go to some museums. Man, they had this really cool science museum AND YOU KNOW WHAT WE SAW
BODY WORLDS
IT WAS SO AWESOME and a lot more crowded than I thought it would be, good God. It was very fascinating and profound, though, and personally, I didn't find it gross or anything at all. The plastination sort of... dehumanized the models, I guess you could say, so it didn't feel like you were actually looking at a bunch of dead bodies, but rather just looking at some plastic molds, y'know? Though there were a few teenage girls who squealed about how the bodies were soooo groooossss which was kind of annoying.
I will say, though, that the thing that probably unsettled me the most was this one little display where they took the brain of someone who had had a stroke, then sliced it up and laid the pieces flat so you could see all the hemmoraging. The blood looked like these black splotches covering the brain and worming their way through the wrinkles and guh, I hate the thought of someone having to go through that. That could have been due to my pretty large fear of medical illnesses more than anything else, though (which is why I can't watch House -- it makes me seriously uncomfortable and shaky and weak and I have to go do something else for a while to forget about it :< why am I such a wuss).
Man, now I'm getting all weird. NEED TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE
They had a little thing on "real" Zodiac signs, and according to this, Sarah and I are both Leos. Personally, I don't really put any stock into Zodiac signs, but I thought this was kind of interesting just because Sarah is always blaming her critical...ness over her being a Virgo. SHE DOESN'T HAVE AN EXCUSE ANYMORE! HAW HAW HAW
Well, that, and I also thought it was funny that my "true" Zodiac sign still doesn't fit me. POWERFUL, RISK-TAKING SEX BOMB? THAT'S ME
Oh yeah, and we went to an art museum before that, which was also very interesting. My favorite part was this one room they had that was just filled with old armor and weapons and stuff, and oh man it was so cool 8D I HAVE A WEIRD FASCINATION WITH THAT SORT OF THING, I THINK I'VE MENTIONED THIS BEFORE
Anyway, that's enough of that. To make this post a bit more worthwhile, how aboutAWWWWWWWWW
Sorry, distracted. HOW ABOUT SOME DRAWINGS? Ever since I made Eccentricity there hasn't been much of a point to posting them here, since I put everything I draw up there. Lately, though, I've been thinking that I kind of miss doing art posts in this journal, especially since not everyone looks at Eccentricity. So what I've decided is that I'm going to start posting things here FIRST, and THEN move them to Eccentricity, so that way, Eccentricity will be more of an archive-y site, which is what it was intended to be in the first place. :DTook me long enough to figure that out
You should look at the website for stuff I did before these, by the way.

Let's start with this TERRIBLE SKETCH OF SUCK GOD I HATE THIS AND I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT ONCE I'M DONE WITH IT THEN IT WILL LOOK SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN COW DUNG
And I really like the idea I have for it, too >( GOD. And yes, I resized this, since the original is huge.

Some Tal doodle that I'm actually kind of happy with for some reason. I need to draw my characters more.

SO YOU SEE, TAL
WHENEVER I SEE AN ITEM
I SEE...
A DREAM

Pose practice. I like how her left arm came out, and that's... pretty much it.

The original of this, in case you missed my reply to
oldsneakers :O This one is boring.

HEY KIDS
CAN YOU NAME ALL THE CHARACTER DESIGN ERRORS?

My grandpa is doing a book with all his poetry in it, and he's asking my mom to do the illustrations. Mom keeps trying to get me to do a picture of a skinny cowboy for his book (he said it would be alright if I did), and even though I honestly do not think my art is good enough to be in a book, I thought I might give it a go, just to relieve some stress from my mom and to make my grandpa happy. I haven't read the poem for this so I don't actually know what the mood is or anything, so I'm probably going to do several sketches, just to be safe. AND YOU CAN BET THAT ONCE I'M DONE I WILL COME RUNNING TO YOU GUYS TO MAKE SURE THEY LOOK OKAY
This is the one I'm working on right now, though. I can't draw cowboy hats at all, argh.

IT'S KUMATORA, WHO SEEMS TO HAVE RECENTLY EATEN A CUP OF CRAPPY FORESHORTENING NOODLES

I got a Tegaki! I'm just "Dox" on there, by the way. I was just sort of screwing around in this. The way Tegaki is set up kind of scares me -- no layers or editing or safety saving or anything, and the "Undo" button only goes back so far :< You can at least zoom by right-clicking and hitting "Zoom In," but it's sort of clumsy. It's still really addicting to draw on, though.

I like how this came out 8D The only thing that bugs me is the size of Kumatora's head, and I would have messed with it, but I was too scared to do so for the reasons stated above. Eh well.

Just a reply to someone who commented on the Mother 3 pic.

Reply to a picture where someone asked everyone to draw a manly man who could not be mistaken for a girl. I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY, SCREW YOU
And I drew some other comments, but they're boring, so I'm not gonna bother with 'em. Har.
And finally...

Edit: Okay, changed the shading on the ground a bit! I think this looks a lot better, though I still feel like something's off...
Remove the "2" in the filename if you wanna see the original, by the way. /Edit
Here is a fine example of a little art project totally spiraling out of control.
I did the original sketch for this when I was fifteen, and it was going to be just her jumping off a cliff with a forest in the background. I left it for a few months and started working on it in Photoshop, and during this I decided to scrap the cliff-jumping idea and have her standing (her head is the same, though). Here's where it gets kind of tricky -- I had NO IDEA what to do for the background. I thought about keeping the forest thing, then I thought about having her overlooking a desert wasteland, then tried to have her watching over a village as it's getting burned up, then I thought about having her watching the apocalypse, and I even thought about throwing in a UFO at some point. Finally, I just had her standing on some random, deserted planet and watching a meteor. I really didn't intend for this to come out so big and detailed, and actually just thought I'd draw some quick little image in Photoshop and move on to other things... and now, at the ripe old age of sixteen and a half, I am just now finishing it.
This has a LOT of errors in it, but y'know, I'm happy with it. 8D I may still go back and tweak it some more (I feel like the ground should have more/better shading on it, but I can't figure out where. Could someone help me out?), but for right now, I consider myself done with this.
Also, this may seem like it's heavily symbolic and has a message of some sort, but it actually doesn't have any meaning to it. You can draw your own conclusions if you want, though.
... I really thought I had more to say about this piece. GUESS NOT :B
Aaaaand yup. Feel free to critique any of these, by the way!
On a side note, Apollo Justice got here sometime while we were gone! And I even got the keychain! :D And for some reason, I have yet to take the game out of the plastic wrap. I must fix this immediately.

Date: 2008-03-03 06:29 pm (UTC)For Tal, all I can decide on right now is that she and her sister, Belle (who you can see in the first Tegaki pic), are living in an apartment together due to undecided complications at home, they're both poor, and Tal took martial arts lessons of some sort when she was younger and living with her parents (which she got... pretty far in, but not terribly. Still a few belts away from a black belt and such). And... that's it. WOO. god i need to work on my characters
I HAVE MANY MORE MOTHER 3 PICTURES COMING UP :D I just need to get around to working on them. cough
