Ugh, I've felt really out of it these past couple of weeks. I've just been oddly introspective and depressed and can't seem to focus on anything else and auuuuggggh. I think it's going away, though, finally.

The roads on our street are getting rebuilt. I don't really know why since the roads seemed perfectly fine to me, but I think it has something to do with stability or something..? Because they're seriously just tearing everything out, including the curbs and driveway ends and stuff. I dunno. I guess if it had to be done then it's a good thing that they're doing it, but it's kind of annoying since now we can't really leave the house. Not to mention that the construction workers come in at like 5 AM and like to make as much noise as possible, with the random screaming arguments and singing and setting the neighbor's yard on fire. No, really.

Soooo, looks like Spore is coming out September 7th. I freaked out over this game when I first heard about it, but thinking about it now, it... well, it actually looks kind of boring. Maybe I'm being kind of hard on it due to my deep-seated hatred of sim games (aside from The Sims/Sims 2, but y'know), but in my experience, games where you just run around without any actual sense of an ulterior motive can only remain interesting for so long before you just get sick of the whole thing and never pick it up again. This is why I could never get into MMOs -- you fight enemies, level up, maybe do a quest or two, and... that's it. That's the game. You don't have any real goal or purpose besides "get stronger so you can fight stronger enemies," and while that may seem fun for a while, it usually doesn't take too long before the whole thing just feels completely pointless.

But like I said, maybe I'm being hard on it. See, I played a TON of sim games when I was younger -- Sim Park, Theme Park, Sim Theme Park, Theme Hospital, Sim Ant, Sim Earth, Sim Farm, Sim City, Sim Copter, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, Sim Safari, Pharaoh, Pet Shop (ahahahaha), both Animal Crossing games, two Harvest Moon games, Catz/Dogz/Babyz, Creatures, and probably a bunch of other things I'm forgetting, and every single one of them would always leave me feeling... well... okay i'll say it THEY LEFT ME EMPTY INSIDE, OKAY? They never end, they take forever to progress in, there's no reward, no point, and after a while they become impossibly difficult so you feel like you're just fighting an uphill battle and losing in the process. It's either that or the ones like Hey You, Pikachu!, where, once you've done everything there is to be done, you're then turned loose so you can do nothing but help that freaking Bulbasaur make its lunch and beat the crap out of pinatas for the rest of eternity. Why even bother with it?

... but, knowing me, I'll still wind up checking it out just to see if I'm wrong about the whole thing. I heard a rumor that it's coming out for the Wii, so maybe I can rent it, but if not then I think Wish is going to buy it, so I can just mooch off of her. Haw haw. why do i do this to myself

TL;DR: SPORE LOOKS BORING AND I HATE SIM GAMES. LET ME BABBLE ABOUT THIS FOR THREE PARAGRAPHS.

On that note, Apollo Justice comes out... today, I guess! :B Since it's currently 2 AM and everything. I wont get to play it immediately since we just ordered last night and chose the cheapest shipping (5-10 business days), but still. Can't wait!

Videos I've been meanin' to post:
I have so much respect for these guys, seriously. They can have someone break a board over their head and not even flinch, and meanwhile I can barely make myself hold still long enough to take eyedrops. I AM SUCH A FAILURE but yeah, hardcore. :D
WE'RE JUMPING ONTO WHITE BASE! AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Am I lame for laughing at this
The most awesome one yet.
This guy has a lot of REALLY fascinating Super Smash Bros. Melee videos that pretty much just delve into every little tiny detail of the game and point out what it references. It's so amazing to see how much care Nintendo puts into making Smash Bros. games, it really is. I still haven't made it through all the videos.
JESUS CHRIST. I really wanna play this game now. Also, that music is totally awesome. ALSO, THIS.
Y'know, despite how ridiculously unfair and difficult this game is, it's actually very interesting, I think! Just all the references and how each level represents a certain game, and... I dunno. SHUT UP
This cracks me up no matter how many times I watch it. Sulfur hexafluoride is pretty cool, though.
I need to try this.

AND JUST WHILE I'M POSTING RANDOM CRAP, HAVE SOME MEME I GANKED OFF OF [livejournal.com profile] waywardoctagon!
Once you've been tagged, the rules are you have to write a blog with 10 interesting facts/things/habits about yourself.

Finish by choosing 10 people to be tagged and list their names

1. - Duhhhhh... I'm... left-handed. I guess I'll start with that. Thankfully I've never gotten any stupid discriminatory comments or anything (LEFT-HANDED PEOPLE ARE CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL), though people do seem to be pretty mystified by it whenever they find out. Hahaha.
On that note, I should really get some left-handed scissors or something, since right-handed ones hurt like a mother. HOW DO YOU PEOPLE USE THOSE THINGS

2. - This is probably the nerdiest thing I am ever going to say in the history of ever, but here it goes.
I like to learn. That's not really a secret; I've mentioned this a few times before and sometimes post links to various edumacational videos or sites or whatever in this journal. You guys probably know this.
What I haven't told anyone, though, is that my motivation for learning is so I can apply the stuff I've learned to my characters and my little fantasy world thing that I swear to God I will do something with someday. Like... psychology helps me write realistic characters, biology helps me make believable alien races, history gives me ideas for... er... historical events. That sort of thing. Whenever I'm studying something and start to get bored or drift off, I can just tell myself "Hey, maybe I can use this!" and I get all into it (either that, or I'll look at this catalogue we have for our local community college. Looking at the classes there get me all motivated to finish high school so I can take them :B). I even have a folder called "~Center of Knowledge~" that I'm working on filling up with various notes and stuff. Yes. God I am the lamest person ever

3. - I am ridiculously forgetful and absent-minded. I'm always doing things like pouring myself a glass of water and forgetting to take it back to my room, or setting my retainers on the bathroom counter and forgetting them by the time I leave, or telling myself I'm going to do something and then forgetting what it was. And just now I thought about typing this up, then I minimized for a second to refresh my friends page and had to take a few moments to remember what I was going to say when I opened this back up. AGH

4. - I have insomnia, hence why I'm always up so late. It takes me many hours to get to sleep without pills of some sort (which reminds me, we're out). I really envy those of you who don't have it >O YOU PEOPLE AND YOUR SLEEPING

5. - It may not seem like it online, but offline I am actually very introverted and extremely shy/socially anxious :O Online you can talk to me and I'll be all capslock and silly and outgoing, but if you came up and said hi to me in real life, I'd just stammer out a reply and shuffle around and not know what to say, all while turning progressively more red. Like a radish. Because radishes are very socially awkward vegetables. wait what

But this is why I'm kind of worried, like... if I were to ever meet you guys in real life, like at a con or something. I mean, I think it'd be great and everything, but I'm just worried I'd wind up being a big disappointment. D:

6. - I have a fairly smallish appetite and tend to get nauseated a little easily (especially in cars, though that's a different topic :B). It's mainly just the real heavy/hearty stuff that gets me, like hamburgers and beef stew and pancakes (MY MORTAL ENEMY) and so on. My stomach is churning just thinking about it, gah.
But yeah. Maybe this is why I'm so scrawny. I JUST NEED A GREAT BIG HAM SANDWICH, THAT'LL SET ME STRAIGHT

7. - I don't like being touched that much. I'm not the sort of person who will FLIP OUT SJGKHDFGKADGK over being touched or anything, but I just get kinda uncomfortable and... non-responsive, I guess? Family members and close friends are alright, though. :D

8. - I'm actually not a huge fan of chocolate. I don't mind it in small doses, like on a sundae or in a cookie or something, but if it's like one of those desserts you get at restaurants and stuff where it's all chocolate cake with chocolate icing and chocolate syrup and chocolate chips on top, then it's just... blehhh. SOUNDS LIKE A STOMACH ACHE, TO ME >(
On that note, my favorite type of chocolate is white chocolate. IF NOT BEING A BIG FAN OF CHOCOLATE WAS ENOUGH TO CONVINCE PEOPLE THAT I'M INSANE, THEN THE FACT THAT I LIKE WHITE CHOCOLATE IS SURELY THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN

9. - Uh... my reading comprehension is at college level! Or at least that's what the standardized tests back in 6th (5th? I dunno) grade said. Kinda cool, I guess.

10. - I'm reeeeeally debating over whether or not I should put this here, and I'm probably going to horribly regret this when I wake up tomorrow, but I actually had a slightly rocky childhood. It's not something I generally talk about since there's never any real reason to, and I wouldn't even think of trying to compare it with someone who actually had it bad, but I just never really emotionally connected with anyone. Kids at school didn't like me for some reason and singled me out, my siblings hated me (I thought so, anyway. If they did care, then they sure didn't show it in front of me), their friends didn't like me, and my parents, while nice, were on the negligent side. I just had a hard time being accepted by people (which is odd, since there wasn't much about me that needed accepting in the first place. Shy kid who likes cartoons and games and playing pretend, 'has a bit of a smart mouth at times but it's all in good fun. so terrible and weird omg), and had to just entertain myself, pretty much (and I usually turned to video games and the computer to do so. SURPRISE!!!!). I'M REALLY TRYING TO PUT EVERYTHING LIGHTLY HERE SINCE I DON'T WANT TO BRING THE WHOLE POST DOWN WITH MY ANGSTY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, but I really did have a pretty rough time; 'took a huge blow to my self-esteem, confidence, and self-perception. It actually wasn't until semi-recently (one, two years ago?) that things finally started flowing a bit more smoothly and I got over my depression and everything. Things are much, much better now, and I have, for the most part, moved on. I still suffer from some of the side-effects, but I'm working on that. Things didn't start out very well, but they've perked up. It just took a lot (a lot, you have no idea) of patience.

But, uh... ayup. IT EXPLAINS A LOT, REALLY. But y'know, in a way, I wouldn't change any of it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

Man, this whole thing came out a lot longer than originally intended. It also took longer than I thought it would. Gah.

Aaaaand a couple more I yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] missmorrichan:
Leave me an anonymous comment pouring your heart out. Say anything. Tell me your stories, your secrets, those things no one ever asks but you wish to tell. Tell me about your love, your hate, your indifference, your joy. Tell me about what's inside of you when you're reading through these entries on your friends list, and tell me why you continue to come back here. Tell me anything. Tell me what you really think of me or yourself. Anything.

Post anonymously. Speak honestly. Post as many times as you like.

---------------
"How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt 'guilty' asking a close LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?

"Well, here's your chance. If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not going to get irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before, so ask away!"

OKAY I THINK THAT'S ENOUGH MINDLESS RAMBLING FOR ONE POST GOD WHY DID IT TAKE LIKE TWO HOURS TO WRITE THIS

I am so entirely with you on 2 and 3 there. Learning would be a lot more worthwhile if I could REMEMBER ANYTHING, ARGH
(and uh 10 but that's a whole different story which I won't go into here)

I rarely go on Youtube anymore, but those videos look cool, too. Good lord, the grammar in that I Wanna Be The Guy opening screen. *shudder*

I KNOW, RIGHT? I can never remember anything if I don't write it down, and even then it's a gamble. >( stupid bad memory

Haha, man, not just the opening screen, but the whole video. XD With the occasional superimposed text and the guy's commentary (I DON'T WANNA DO THIS NO MO' THIS AIN'T FUNNY) and everything. BAD GRAMMAR ALL AROUND WOO

I love learning too! (And yes, sometimes for my fantasy stories dfkjdfj. Like I really, really wanted to learn about medieval times because epic fantasties are in the middle ages, you know. STUFF LIKE THAT.)

I used to be kind of introverted (more like moody and "GTFO") all the time, but now I'm more expressive because of the friends I have now. WE ARE ALL SO RANDOM just like you guys :D So it's all cool.

*hugs* to your childhood! I'm glad you're getting better.

For some reason, I like thinking about Harvest Moon (read: wooing girls) than actually playing it.. when I play it, EVERYTHING has to be precise. I played the gameboy versions, where every seven seconds (I counted) you spend outside is ten minutes or something in the game, so if you misstep THAT'S LIKE 0.05% OF YOUR DAY RIGHT THERE. Not to mention the time you have to spend sleeping! So it's closer to 1% if you count the time you spend asleep. It takes like half an hour to get ANYWHERE. But YEAH I like wooing characters ¦D

Date: 2008-02-20 10:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] doxinator.livejournal.com
Oh man, I love learning about medieval times! Especially medieval torture, as creepy as that might sound. IT'S INTERESTING, OKAY? I mean, I would never think of any of those things in a million years, and I don't know anyone else (I THINK?) who would, either :O Makes me wonder how THEY came up with them.

Yeah, I think I just need to... get out more, really XD IT'S JUST THAT THERE'S NOTHING TO DO IN THIS TOWN or at least nothing that interests me that much. ARGH

I'm the same way! Sim games always seem to sound great in theory, but once you actually play them they wind up being exactly the same as all the others, just with different pitches (you can run a hospital! A zoo! A theme park!). AND YET I ALWAYS SEEM TO FALL FOR IT GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME
But in all honesty, I think sim games could be great if they just explored some different ideas, y'know? Every sim game I've played is just MAKE THE BEST [thing] EVER AND CLIMB TO THE TOP and nothing else, and that gets boring after a while because the only thing that's done to spice it up is to make it get progressively harder to move to the next level (move to a different location and do the exact same thing, in other words). Haha, either that or they'll add "disasters," like have the forest you're building burst into flames so you have to start all over again. THAT'S ALWAYS FUN.

Whoops, getting off topic. But yeah, Harvest Moon is probably one of the better sim games I've played :> I think my main beef with it was just that, even with the short days, it still takes a billion years for anything to happen. Maybe I'm just impatient.
But oh man, I would totally take Harvest Moon's time system any day over, say, Animal Crossing's. The real-time thing drives me nuts, I'm sorry. If you want to trigger any kind of event then you have to be there on a specific day at a specific time; the stores open and close and the animals go to sleep at certain times so you're screwed if you feel like playing, say, late at night; and not to mention that if you DON'T play the game then you're PUNISHED by having to pull up weeds for half an hour and/or having your neighbors move away. I don't want a game that just EXPECTS me to always have the time/patience/desire for it, y'know? Maybe I don't WANT to play the game. Maybe I would rather spend time with family or friends on holidays. Maybe I don't have the TIME to play the game. I shouldn't be PUNISHED for that. Screw you, Animal Crossing.

UHH BUT YEAH, WOOING GIRLS IN HARVEST MOON IS PRETTY FUN

Date: 2008-02-20 11:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ameliorer.livejournal.com
Yeah, the time system in Animal Crossing SCARED me. Like wtf, you have to play every day so that you don't have weeds growing!? No thx, I like my life.

There's another Harvest Moon-esque game being released for the DS, I think. It was Rune Factory or something. Basically, it's like Harvest Moon except more fantasy-esque, and you get to beat up monsters. I suppose it's still really repetitive and pointless.

.. but it still sounds awesome. *shot*

WHOO WOOING GIRLS YAAAY

Haha, I had to read that twice before I realized you said you didn't hate Sims/Sims 2. I was going to say!

Yeah, that's part of why MMOs hold no interest for me, too. Just... fighting bigger and bigger big bads forever, leveling forever? WOW, APPEALING. Not. I guess some people like it for the social aspect or something so that's another hit against it.

Hahahhaah that Kirby one was awesome. XD

And the I Wanna Be The Guy one! :D Man, all the surprise deaths! ...Okay, I've been watching those for hours now. XD Skipping over some bits, but still.

WE USE THEM WITH OUR RIGHT HANDS, THAT'S HOW

It's not lame! :D Hey, have you seen these (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=limyaael&keyword=Limyaael%27s+Fantasy+Rants&filter=all)? She eventually moved to IJ (the latest post in her journal is about that, I think) but there's a toooooonnnn still on LJ. (I am slowly working my way down them... I'm all the way to the rant on making convincing loner characters, which is like two-thirds or so.) The links are sorted better here (http://coyotecult.com/communities/sfandf_critters/references/limyaael.php) even though I think it's missing, like, the last three, or something.

8.
HERESY :O well more for me I guess. :B

Kids at school didn't like me for some reason and singled me out
man, that sounds like fourth grade for me. :< well, whatever doesn't kill us only gives us nasty painful memories and lingering scars, huh? wait, that's not how that goes

"Well, here's your chance. If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not going to get irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before, so ask away!"

OH HEY :D well okay, I might have asked this before, but if so I've forgotten because I'm just awesome like that, SO. How'd you find/get into SC2?

Hahaha NAH, THE SIMS IS COOL WITH ME 8D MAKING SIMS OF YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS AND HAVING THEM GAY AROUND IS GREAT FUN NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE
I should really make another Sims 2 screenshot post, that reminds me.

MAN, TELL ME ABOUT IT. I especially hate it when they make it ridiculously hard to level so it takes hours upon hours of intense grinding to get to level 10, and even then you STILL don't have any cool skills to make the game more enjoyable. CITY OF HEROES, I AM LOOKING AT YOU. I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO FLY, IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK
And yeah, I can see liking the social aspects, but... I mean, if I joined a game with one or two people I already knew, it would make things way more fun. But it's just that everyone I know doesn't have the time or money or whatever to play so I have to go at it alone, the people I meet in-game tend to be obnoxious, and the game likes to screw you over if you try to solo (YOU HAVE TO MAKE 20 FRIENDS TO MOVE ON LOL). Maybe I've just been unlucky, but adfkgjhakgn

Oh man, I love the I Wanna Be The Guy so much, even if it makes me want to throw my computer out the window 8D And the ending is surprisingly feel-good, which I think is hilarious.

I HAVE NOT BUT THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT BECAUSE THAT IS A GOLDMINE OF INFORMATION OH MAN :O I love things like this so much.

Whatever doesn't kill us only Falcon Punches our self-esteem! no wait that doesn't sound right either

I found out about it through [livejournal.com profile] zarla, I believe! 8D I can't remember what post it was or anything, just that she was talking about it and linked to it and I kind of went from there. I still need to get around to finishing it, that reminds me. COUGH

I KNOW RIGHT :D

Pfff yeah, I mean I can theoretically see the appeal (I remember grinding for hoooouuuurs in Earthbound, until it put me into almost a trance state, and enjoying that) but... eh....

Haha, just watching that guy play it, it came through... I like watching people play games. :B I mean video games and sometimes board games, becaue let's face it sports are dulllll.

Isn't it?! :D I love her rants; they're so interesting to read. It's everything I love about reading nonfiction about writing.

Hahaha, I should have known. :D She convinced me to play it, too, with her talking about it mainly about ZEX cough. :D

Zomg I'm a lefty too O_o LEFTIES UNITE. And yeah, waywardoctagon is right, I just cut with my right hand and it's no problem. By the way, I heard somewhere that lefties almost = ambidextrous? I know I do a lot of things with my right hand randomly (like cutting vegetables and throwing baseballs) and a lot of things with both sides about equally (like hitting said baseballs). ....I hate baseball. ANYWAY

I can't play RO anymore (or any MMOs, ever) because once I start playing I can't stop. XD I really like the strategy that accompanies large parties (but then again, in RO I'm a priest player, and whenever a priest goes on a dungeon crawl they're basically going "AAAAAAAAH STOP PEOPLE FROM DYING AND KEEP ALL THE BUFFS UP" and they have to keep track of 289237492 things at once, so it's almost ALWAYS interesting). WoE strategy can be really interesting too, and I don't know, there are lots of stupid people but I'm lucky and manage to pick out interesting people to surround myself with. If only I didn't get sucked into them so hard, I would gladly play them more. Sigh.

@2: I think that's pretty amazing. I think all writers do that, really; maybe not to the level of devotion that you do, but seriously. I'll read things and be like "Hey I can apply that in my writing," all the time. And yeah, I remember getting through high school by saying "ONCE I GET TO COLLEGE I CAN STUDY WHAT I WANT TO, GOGOGOGOGO" XD

@4: have you tried meditation? Works for me. O_o I'm sorry, though, that sounds really, incredibly, massively lame.

@5: Aww, but I want to meet you anyway. O_o Not like that'll ever happen, but still. And are white radishes socially awkward too? Maybe they're just anaemic, WHAT WITH BEING TOO PALE AND ALL

@6: You can't eat pancakes?!?!?!?! OH NOES

@8: So you just like sugar (white chocolate) more than, uh, chocolate. Why does that make sense? XD

@10: I get the feeling that a lot of us geek-types went through isolated/lonely childhoods. Sounds like yours was a lot rougher on you than mine was, though. (I actually liked being alone O_o, although it means that now I sometimes make social faux pas-es) Awesome that you're getting more self-esteem! BECAUSE YOU'RE AWESOME AND SHOULD HAVE OODLES OF IT. <3

Well, since this the ask stupid questions posts:
Where are you, then? XD

P.S. - you didn't tag people at the end of your 10 random things list. XD

LEFTY PRIDE
Oh yeah, I've heard something like that before :O I dunno how much that applies to me, though -- I mean, I can do really, really menial tasks with my right hand (using a mouse, grabbing something, opening a door, etc), but other than that, not so much. I can't imagine trying to use scissors with my right hand, either. I WOULD PROBABLY WIND UP KILLING SOMEONE IN THE PROCESS
Haha, I remember playing baseball in 5th/6th grade and having to share the one left-handed glove we had with some other lefty kid in my class. THINGS GOT COMPLICATED

Yeah, out of all the MMOs I've played, RO gripped me the most :D It's also probably the one MMO I've played where a very large portion of the players I meet are actually very nice and fun to be around, as opposed to the others where it's just like LOL WAN2 GRND N D OCRZ DNGN KJGHD ASDF DK WEUR and nothing else
But yeah, I still keep it around on my computer just in case I ever feel like picking it up again, though every time I do I usually just start thinking of the eternal level grind and decide against it. Although I actually did play the free trial not too long ago, and it kind of depressed me :< Nobody talks to each other anymore, the economy is insane, most of the players are more intent on making the perfect build/getting the best equips/coming up with the fastest levelling plan instead of just having fun, and it's just agadkghdakg WHERE IS THE LOVE, RAGNAROK
... and now I kind of want to play. What is wrong with me

I agree, I think all writers do that to a certain extent :O "Write what you know" and everything. And actually, it's not just with studying -- I could like... I dunno, feel angry or something, and in the midst of my rage I'll find myself concentrating on how it feels and being like HAY MAYBE I CAN USE THIS FOR A STORY :B and then start daydreaming. GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME
But yeah, a lot of writers do stuff like that, I've noticed.

Y'know, I used to meditate when I was a kid, and I think it did help a bit. I ought to pick that up again :O

Haha, maybe someday we'll meet at a con! 8D I've been trying to get back into anime cons and cosplaying and such, actually.
OR MAYBE THEY'RE PALE WITH FEAR or something it's late

I REALLY CAN'T, JUST THE THOUGHT OF PANCAKES IS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME FEEL NAUSEATED, LET ALONE HAVING TO SMELL OR EAT THEM OR ANYTHING
STUPID PANCAKES GOD

Yeeeeah, I think you're right. I actually read an article (http://www.paulgraham.com/nerds.html) on something similar to that.
Nah, I liked being alone, it was just all the negativity (for lack of better word) that got to me. Don't really wanna go into detail but asdgdfg
Aww, shucks <3

I'M FROM GOOD OL' OKLAHOMA, LAND OF MAGIC AND WILL ROGERS! It's pretty nice, even though people from other locations tend to assume that everyone here is a giant redneck and proceed to get all elitist about wherever they come from, which is really annoying. But other than that..!

Oh, whoops :B I WAS JUST GONNA PULL THE "TAKE THIS IF YOU WANT" CARD, THOUGH, SO WHATEVER
